I grew up on a farm in West Michigan on the lakeshore and have been around horses for as long as I can remember. At seven, I received my own pony and have been passionate about horses ever since. During high school and college, I worked as a wrangler and trainer at a riding stable.

My older brother’s severe disabilities inspired me to become a therapist. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy from Calvin University and a master’s in Recreational Therapy & Business from Indiana University. I also became a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) through PATH. My career as a therapist spans rehabilitation, assisted living, adapted sports, and psychiatric services. In 2014, I founded an equine-assisted therapy program that grew to serve 150 individuals annually by 2023, where I spent 10 years as Executive Director and Lead Therapist.

Combining my therapy background with lifelong equine experience has equipped me with unique skills and sensitivity to effectively support our students. The immense therapeutic impact of connecting students with horses is why I stay in this field!

When I’m not working, I enjoy hiking with Viela (my Vizsla), reading thrillers and historical fiction, pursuing calisthenics goals, and spending quality time back home on Lake Michigan with friends and family.
