We Are Looking For Volunteers

Help make a difference in our community and assist us in living out our mission statement. As a Therapeutic Riding Center, we depend on volunteers to assist us in our Therapeutic Programs, Special Events, and Barn/Property Duties.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Volunteer assistants must be at least 10 years of age.
  • We would like volunteers to plug in consistently, choosing a day and time to come in each week if possible.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Therapeutic Riding Volunteers:  Weekday afternoons and evenings as a horse leader, sidewalk, or lesson assistant.
  • Garden Volunteers:  Mornings and afternoons for watering and tending to the garden.
  • Barn/Property Volunteers:  Mondays, Fridays and flexible scheduling on weekdays, to complete barn chores or barn & property maintenance.
  • Event Volunteers:  Usually Saturday mornings or Monday afternoons, to assist in setup, teardown, and during the event.

HORSE LEADER:  A horse leader is responsible for the equine during a therapeutic riding lesson. The leader, however, must also be aware of the rider, possible side walkers, and hazards in the arena.

  • Horse Leader Requirements
    • Volunteers must be 16 years of age.
    • Some previous horse experience, including riding and/or stable management.
    • Ability to walk briskly for 30-45 min on sandy footing.
    • Attentive to input from instructor.
    • Ability to respond quickly in an emergency.

SIDEWALKER:  A sidewalker is directly responsible for the rider. They walk beside the horse in alignment with the rider’s knee. Sidewalkers may be asked to support the rider with a heel or thigh hold.

  • Sidewalker Requirements:
    • Volunteers must be 13 years of age.
    • Be appropriate size.
    • Be physically able to support the assigned rider properly.
    • Attentive to input from rider and instructor.
    • Ability to help the instructor with mounting and dismounting.
    • Ability to walk on sandy footing for 30-45 min, with arms potentially raised.
